Scholarships and grants

Once you have determined your family income band, it will be easier to find out which grants are available to you. The basic grant for students in band 0 (MECD grant) is supplemented by the Government with Equitat grants with discounts of up to 50% on the enrolment fee for students in bands 1 to 5.

There are also specific grants for accreditation of proficiency in foreign languages, mobility support and for undertaking postgraduate engineering studies, amongst others.

If you are in band 0 for family income and family assets, and you meet the academic requirements established by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport (MECD), you can obtain an MECD grant.
The MECD grant provides exemption for credits the first time that you enrol for them, and in some cases is also complemented by other grants such as residence or compensation, among others.

As a student who benefits from an Equitat grant, you will obtain a discount on the fee for the credits the first time that you enrol for them, which could be between 50% and 10% of the total amount, depending on the band that you are in, calculated according to your computable family income and the number of members in the family unit.
You may apply for an Equitat grant if you are in income bands 1 to 5. Students in the first year who meet the economic criteria for MECD grants but not the academic criteria, will have the right to a first-year Equitat grant.
If you want to get a general idea of the cost of your studies if you receive an Equitat grant, use the university fees calculator.
