Fees for university degree courses

The system of public fees for university credits in Catalonia is adapted to the students' economic and family situation. The amount that you will finally receive takes into account the income and number of members in your family unit, as long as you do not exceed certain criteria for assets. The fee for official courses at public universities and the UOC is established every academic year by the Government of Catalonia through a decree.

Seven bands of family income have been determined. Depending on your band, you may receive a discount of up to 50% the enrolment fee through the Equitat grants.

Band 0 corresponds to students who meet the requirements for a grant from the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport (MECD). Bands 1 to 5 apply to students who could benefit from an Equitat grant. Band 6 is reserved for students who cannot get a grant but they can request, like other students, payment in instalments (FINAN).

If you want to know in more detail about the special forms of payment and payment in instalments at each university, see the enrolment section of the centres' websites:

Members who count as part of the family unit:
Other people who count as part of the family unit in addition to the candidate are the father and the mother and, if applicable, the legal guardian; single brothers or sisters who are under 25 and lived in the family home on 31 December of the last financial year; older brothers and sisters who have a certificate of disability; as well as parents of the candidate's parents if they live in the same house.
If you are an independent family unit, family members that are taken into account are your spouse, if applicable, the person with whom you are in a similar relationship to a spouse, as well as your children, if applicable.

Calculation of family income:
Family income is calculated on the basis of the tax declarations of all members of the family unit. However, in the case of members who are not the main breadwinner or spouse or a person in a similar relationship to a spouse, only 50% of the amount resulting from the corresponding income tax declarations shall be calculated.
The calculations will be made on the basis of information in the following boxes of the tax declaration of the members who are included in the calculation.

366 + 377 - 367 + 370 + 372 - 373 - 371 - 532

The result will indicate your computable family income (taking into account that some deductions can be applied to the family income in the case of reductions, large families, etc.).
In the calculation for members who are not required to submit a tax declaration, payments that are made on account will be deducted from the sum of the income.

Calculation of family assets:
The calculation to verify whether you meet the personal asset requirements will mainly be made on the basis of your tax declaration. It will be calculated on the basis of the following boxes in the income tax declarations of computable members (taking into account that members who are not the main breadwinner, spouse or person in a similar relation to the spouse only count for 50% of the resulting amount).

Moveable assets 372 + 47 + 212 + 366 + 370 - 263 - 265

Income from economic activities 96 + 154 + 129 + 195

The fee per credit for university master’s degree courses are established depending on the mode of study:

  • Master’s degrees that give the holder access to degree-dependent professions and those with recommendations granted by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.
  • Master’s degrees do not give the holder access to degree-dependent professions.

There is no difference for fees for the university master’s degree courses taught at the Open University of Catalonia, with a single fee in place for all credits.

From the 2017-2018 academic year, masters for the exercise of regulated professions benefit from the progressive application of the social tariff system. These are the credit prices based on income:

Further information

Given that this master's degree is offered in coordination with all of the universities at which it is taught, all of the universities agreed that the fee per credit should be established by the decree for the cost of academic services for each course.

More information: Decree that sets out the fees for academic services at the public universities of Catalonia and the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) for the academic year 2016-2017.

Depending on academic circumstances, if you want to study for a doctoral degree, you will pay a fee according to the following concepts: on the one hand, the guidance, tutoring and continuous assessment of the doctoral thesis; on the other, the reading and defence of the doctoral thesis.

Provided that the courses, seminars or other research training activities organised by the universities for their official doctoral programmes are structured into credits, the fees are set in the same way and at the same level as those of official university master's degrees.
